The Topologist

I knew you not,

Only knew you knew of knots,

Though what of knots you knew

I cannot tell

Nor know quite what it is to know of knots at all.

But knots are surely ties that bind,

And sometimes these are purely in the mind,

And at seams’ end may hold in time a stitch,

Which could become a dreadful twist of fate,

Should one knot more to make a tie secure,

Unfasten what was firmly held before,

And so at last perhaps you felt the need to educate,

Make manifest, communicate and demonstrate

Burke’s contract with the ‘Truckers’ Hitch’.
